2026 Nissan Frontier Release Date

The 2026 Nissan Frontier release date or production schedule hasn't been announced. We believe it should go on sale in the fall of 2025 and will be updated here once information becomes available.

2026 Nissan Frontier Redesign Changes - What's New?

Because the 2026 Frontier will be part of the fourth-generation debut, it will have a complete redesign, and multiple automakers will collaborate on this lineup.

The Honda-Nissan alliance announced a partnership with Mitsubishi Motors to develop software-defined vehicles with a major focus on autonomous driving technology, AI, connectivity, and electric vehicles (EVs). This joint development will produce new batteries and electrically driven axles by sharing motors, inverters, and models that will complete each other's lineups-including combustion (diesel and fuel) and EVs.

While 2026 Frontier-specific changes haven't been fully revealed, we know Nissan plans to offer a diesel engine at launch and introduce hybrids with all-electric variants in the future.

2026 Nissan Frontier Price, Trims, & Configurations

The 2026 Nissan Frontier trims and pricing haven't been announced. We speculate most trims will carry over from the 2025 lineup with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions, as Nissan is heavily focusing on electrification.

Based on the 2025 Nissan Frontier MSRPs, the 2026 models are expected to increase in price as a redesign year. We estimate the 2026 trims and starter pricing as follows:
  • S: $34,000 MSRP (est.)
  • SV: $36,000 MSRP (est.)
  • PRO-X: $40,000 MSRP (est.)
  • PRO-4X: $45,000 MSRP (est.)
  • SL: $48,000 MSRP (est.)

  • 16" aluminum alloy wheels

The available S Utility Package may carry over, offering a factory-applied spray-on bedliner and bed-mounted 120-volt AC outlet with another one in the rear center console.

A side image graphic of an orange 2025 Nissan Frontier exterior dimensions parked in an open field with trees behind itThe 2026 Nissan Frontier paint options haven't been revealed, but they usually offer some prior model year colors.

  • Cardinal Red TriCoat
  • Glacier White
  • Gun Metallic
  • Red Alert

The signature rugged styling should remain with its all-terrain tires, boxy shape, and bold front grille. We predict lighter body materials on combustion variants to improve fuel efficiency based on Nissan's all-EV goals and a revamped exterior design as an all-new generation.

The exterior dimensions may change from the 2025 model specs, starting at: 210.2" L x 73.0" W x 71.8" H with a 7.8" ground clearance.

Nissan's new partnership with Mitsubishi revealed a main focus on software-defined vehicles and should offer upgraded versions of existing interior technologies and introduce new ones for the 2026 Frontier.

We predict them to implement the following:
  • AI-enhanced off-roading performance features like automated drive mode selection in per-terrain conditions
  • Updated driver control software to strengthen user experience and daily pickup driving
  • Immersive entertainment systems like surround sound speakers, built-in subwoofers, and livestream smartphone connectivity

2026 Nissan Frontier Engines, Performance, & Reliability

The 2026 Nissan Frontier lineup will have gasoline, diesel, and PHEV powertrain options.

Additional details aren't available, but it may continue the 3.8L six-cylinder engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission for gasoline-powered variants, producing up to 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. Replacing it with a more fuel-efficient engine is possible with Nissan's new electrification focus.

For diesel variants, the 2026 Frontier may have a similar powertrain used in the Mitsubishi Triton-a 2.4L turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic transmission, producing up to 201 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque.

For PHEV variants, the 2026 Frontier will likely use a similar powertrain to the 2025 Nissan Rogue's new hybrid model. It has a 2.4L gasoline engine with two electric motors, producing up to 248 hp-a first-ever for Nissan and set to release this year! It shares the same components as the Mitsubishi Outlander Hybrid, which should be reflected in the 2026 Frontier with their recent partnership.

The 2026 Frontier diesel models won't have fuel economy ratings because they qualify as a heavy-duty pickup.

The 2026 Nissan Frontier's max towing capacity and payload ratings aren't available. If the new gasoline-powered variants have the same engine as the 2025 models, they should tow up to 7,150 lbs with a 620 lbs max payload capacity.

2026 Nissan Frontier Safety Ratings & Technology

The 2026 Nissan Frontier won't have safety ratings until it's released. Based on the 2025 Frontier IIHS ratings, these will likely improve as an all-new model year and generation-which rated the highest in their overall evaluations for moderate overlap front and side tests.

Details about safety and driver assistance technologies aren't available, but should include the following features typically offered:
  • Safety Shield 360: A suite of safety features, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning.
